Conservation Conversation

Let’s talk about it!

Updated March 25, 2019

FORT WAYNE, Ind.—In celebration of Earth Day, the Environmental Resources Center at Purdue University Fort Wayne presents the second annual Conservation Conversation, Saturday April 6, 2019. Last year over 100 people attended, and this Conversation promises to be bigger and better.

The event is free, but you must RSVP to come to the reception. There are costs for the dinner and we need your RSVP for that as well.

The Conversation educates and informs, and facilitates dialogue among local and regional organizations and other stakeholders about the opportunities and challenges for conservation efforts in our growing community. We will foster collaboration with partners to promote the best outcomes for the quality of life in our region. The audience is comprised of the general public, representatives of a variety of organizations and agencies, and the faculty, students and staff of Purdue University Fort Wayne.

Schedule of Events                                  (full Program)

Presentations begin at 9 a.m. in the International Ballroom with a welcome from Mayor Tom Henry. We will then have numerous short presentations throughout the day on subjects including climate change, local sustainability efforts, river water quality, and wildlife research. We will finish the day with a reception and a dinner featuring sculptor Sayaka Ganz. RSVPs are required for these.

Confirmed speakers include representatives of the City of Fort Wayne, local industry, state and federal agencies, not for profits like The Nature Conservancy, and a variety of faculty from Purdue Fort Wayne that are affiliated with the ERC.

Concurrently, there will also be many displays featuring area conservation organizations, various hands-on activities for young and old alike, a silent auction with some very special environmentally themed items up for bid, including tickets for Omnibus speaker Jeff Corwin and a Wild Encounter experience at the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo!

We will finish the day with a reception and a dinner featuring sculptor Sayaka Ganz. Sayaka will tell us about the inspirations for her stunning sculptures, spectacular representations of nature using repurposed metal and plastic items. Learn more about Sayaka and her art here.

Parking for the International Ballroom is conveniently located in the P2 garage, immediately to the east, and nearly connected to the venue (MAP). Parking for the ERC is south towards Coliseum Blvd. along the St. Joseph River. Here are directions to the ERC.
